Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch Celebrated International Womens Day 2012

Seva Vanitha Branch of the Regiment of Artillery organized a wide range of activities on the 25th of Sunday, March 2012 at the Artillery Complex in Panagoda as an event to commemorate the International Women’s Day. Spouses of 130 Other Ranks representing all Regiments and institutions of the Regiment of Artillery were present and all of them were served with snacks and tea prior to the commencement of the program. Singer Sri Lanka carried out a demonstration to all present and elaborated on the preparation of a Sari Jacket. Members of the Artillery Seva Vanitha picked ladies who are interested and willing to pursue on sewing during their interaction session were given the opportunity to train themselves free of charge from any of the Singer outlets island wide. 15 scholarships of Rupees 10,000.00 each were presented to 15 children who secured higher marks at the year 5 scholarship examination 2011, by the president of Artillery Seva Vanitha Mrs Champika Rambukpotha and other members of the branch. Further members of the Artillery Seva Vanitha selected 10 ladies who possessed the knack and competence in handling a sewing machine were gifted with 10 sewing machines. Thereafter a token draw was held to select 25 ladies and lucky winners were presented with 25 mobile phones sponsored by Dialog Axiata. “Back Fire” musical group entertained the gathering prior to lunch and during the lunch session. All participants were given a gift pack containing house hold goods worth of Rupees 3500.00 and an attractive sari worth over Rupees 2500.00 as the concluding event. All dispersed happily carrying pleasant memories.
