2014-07-26

The appreciation of a woman’s role in a man’s life is much reflected by the phrase, ‘Behind every successful man is a woman.’ Building up on this, we would see that wives of almost all soldiers are extraordinary individuals who fulfil many roles which includes the roles of husbands and fathers. Thus in appreciation, a special event in appreciation of the wives of disabled, deceased and serving soldiers was organised by the Seva Vanitha branch of the Regiment of Artillery. It was held on Saturday, 26th July 2014 at the Minneriya Army camp. 175 ladies and their families were present at the event. They were all presented with gifts at the entrance which consisted of various beauty products.

Being a wife of a military personnel involves not only the general criteria of a ‘normal’ woman, but also qualities such as determination, endurance and tenacity. Most, trying hard to get through their days, tend to forego their needs and sacrifices them for the needs and wants of their families. Recognizing this, Mrs. R. Gunasekara enlightened all those present on the importance of maintaining cleanliness throughout the day and how to effectively use make up.

During the day various competitions and games were organised and the victorious individuals were presented with valuable gift items. Some of the fun events included numerous games such as the best dressed, longest hair etc etc. The participants also received sarees and umbrellas. The Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery and the President of the Seva Vanitha branch of the Regiment of Artillery presented Sisil blenders to all the ladies present at this event. They were also given a pack of essential goods that would contribute towards their daily needs. Alongside the event, two other agendas were followed by their husbands and children. The event concluded with a memorable and scrumptious lunch which was commended by many. Everyone present walked their separate paths with joyous hearts, smiles and heavy gifts.
