Lt Col W S A B Dharmaratne RSP USP psc IG SLA assumed office as the Commanding Officer of 8th Medium Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery on 14 June 2019 at Headquarters 8th Medium Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, Kokavil.

Programme for assuming duties commenced with reviewing the Guard Turnout and Parade presented by the Unit. Then as a symbolic gesture of taking over the command, Lt Col W S A B Dharmaratne RSP USP psc IG SLA placed his signature for a formal document after a brief religious observance.
