Maj Gen PR Wanigasooriya VSV USP ndu USACGSC assumed office as the 20th Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery
2020-01-06Major General PR Wanigasooriya VSV USP ndu USACGSC assumed office as the 20th Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery on 06 January 2020 in a grandiose ceremony held at Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
He revered the fallen war heroes of the Regiment by laying a floral wreath at the Regimental Monument expressing his utmost concern towards them as the foremost event of the ceremony. Then he reviewed the Guard Turnout presented by the RHQ and accepted the Regimental salute accorded by members of the Regiment in a parade which included Regimental Colours.
As a symbolic gesture of taking over the command, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya placed his signature for a formal document in a presence of Council members, Commanding Officers, other officers and staff of RHQ after a brief religious observances and lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The day's events also textured with a tea party at WOs' & Sgts' Mess and Officers address by the Colonel Commandant at Officers' Mess. Large numbers of officers were present to witness the ceremony. To sum up the programme Colonel Commandant, senior officers, other officers and all other ranks attended the Bodhipooja at 6 SLA premises.
Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya is the most senior Gunner Officer serving in the Regiment who is having immensurable experiences in the Army. In addition to newly bestowed responsibilities as Colonel Commandant, he is currently holding the office as Commander, SF HQ (J).
