Inaugural Artillery and Mortar Fire Were Blown Up at Field Firing Range Tempitiya
2021-07-20It was a long-standing requirement of a field firing range for the Sri Lanka Army to recommence the field firing. Achieving another main aspiration, greater milestone and visionary plan of Commander of the Army, field firing was recommenced on 16 July 2021 at the Field Firing Range - TEMPITIYA (FFRT). This had been a very significant and historical event for the Sri Lanka Army, since this was conducted after the termination of field firing at FFR MADURU OYA, since11 April 2014. The event was organised after series of discussions and preparations from different levels and elements of the Army and relevant civil authorities.
Further to ensure the safety of civilians and wild animals, Security Force Headquarters (East) has bear up total responsibility and with the direction and close supervision of the Commander Security Force (East), 24 Infantry Division has done commendable task. Infantry Training Centre and School of Artillery have initiated this inaugural field firing. Artillery and Infantry Mortars were fired at the inaugural shooting. Artillery firing was conducted under the close supervision of the Commander Artillery Brigade and Commandant School of Artillery with the direction and guidance of the Colonel Commandant.
