Lt Col W W M P B Wekadapola USP psc IG SLA assumed duties as the 15th Commanding Officer of 5 Volunteer Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery on 20 March 2023 at Headquarters, 5 Volunteer Regiment, Seenipura, Kanthale.

Programme for assuming duties commenced with reviewing the Guard Turnout. Lt Col W W M P B Wekadapola USP psc IG SLA placed his signature on a formal document after a brief religious observance as a symbolic gesture of taking over the command. The day's event included planting a sapling (Mangifera Indica), troop address, all ranks tea and camp visit.
