THE SCHOLORSHIP AWARDING PROGRAMME ARTILLERY SEVA VANITHA BRANCH

The Seva Vanitha Branch of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, under the patronage of the President of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs Chama Wanasinghe, organized a Scholorship Awarding Programme for differently abled children of Officers and Other Rankers in the Regiment, on 17 August 2023, at the Regimental Officers Mess premises. This noble undertaking has bestowed immeasurable value upon those who are most deserving of care, attention and affection. Brave fathers and mothers of 24 differerntly abled Children, participated as recipients and this will undoubtedly a great relief for them for sure! Not forgetting the utmost dedication of Snipers in the final stages of the Humanitarian operation, 3 Children also awarded with scholorships, who their fathers were 2 brave snipers (Sgt Malika J A R - KIA and Sgt Rathnasiri K P (Rtd)).

In this momentous endeavor, thirty Donors generously contributed Rs 2.5 Million for this worthy cause, including five sponsors, sponsoring for gift packs. Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), Uswatte Confectionaries, Unilever Sri Lanka, Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC, were some of the Sri Lankan reputed brands amongst the sponsors, while Mr Mahesh Dassanayake and Mr Prajalitha Pushpakumara contributed with essential day to day needs for differently abled Children. Major Ananda Rodrigo (Rtd), Mrs Asanthi Wijesinghe, Mr Jeewaka Wijesinghe from Certis Lanka and Dr Rajendra Wanasinghe generousely contributed with 5 Wheel Chairs.

The Scholorship Awarding program marks a historical juncture as one of the most cherished and momentous chapter in the annals of Sri Lanka Artillery, as the first ever program launched for Differently abled Children of the Regiment, with the collaboration of donors in such a magnitude and number. Mrs Thanuja Dias, the 14th President of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch, graced the occasion as the guest of Honor, who worked around the clock with unwavering dedication to transform this program in to a reality. The Chief of Staff of the Army & the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu along with the President of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs Chama Wanasinghe joined with donors for the presentation and the Committee members and other distinguished senior Officers also present at the occasion.
