Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ Workshop (2025/1) at the School of Artillery, Minneriya

The School of Artillery, Minneriya successfully hosted a Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ (SNCO) Workshop, bringing together experienced and dedicated senior ranks to enhance their leadership and administrative skills. Under the insightful guidance of the Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery Major General KVNP Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the workshop held over 17 February 2025 to 22 February 2025. Aimed to reinforce the professional development of SNCOs, ensuring they remain well-informed, disciplined and prepared for both operational and administrative duties.

The workshop was designed to enhance the capabilities of SNCOs in key areas such as:

• Introduction in Clean Sri Lanka Programme
• Awareness of Legal Activities
• Powers vested with the Sri Lanka Army in Law Enforcement
• Retirement Planning of SNCO
• Introduction to Dress, Dining & Social Ethics
• Grievances Handling and Management in Work Place
• Tradition of the Regiment of Artillery and its Evolution
• Team Building & Reaction to Practical Situation while on Duties
• Civil Law immunity vested during an IS duties for SL Army & Cord with SL Police
• Time Management
• Responsibility of SNCOs at Unit Level
• Responsibility and Accountability of SNCOs at Unit, Regimental and Army Levels and their Social Responsibility in Maintaining Good Order in Work and Life.
• Medical Checkup
• Aerobic Exercises and Recreation sessions

The workshop featured a series of interactive lectures, practical exercises and case studies conducted by Senior Officers who provided invaluable knowledge drawn from their years of service, insights provided valuable historical perspectives and essential guidance for long-term career and post-retirement planning.

Keynote Address by Commander Artillery Brigade, Brigadier TGIA Ariyaratne RSP IG, highlighting the importance of SNCOs in mission success. The event concluded with a Certificate Awarding Ceremony and Closing Address by Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery Major General KVNP Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, who commended the attendees for their enthusiasm and emphasized the importance of continuous professional development.

A Mess Night was organized as part of the workshop with a formal, time-honored tradition reflecting the deep-rooted customs and camaraderie of the Regiment of Artillery. The evening brought together senior officers, officers and SNCOs in a setting that blended military discipline with a spirit of fellowship. The Mess Night served as a fitting conclusion to the workshop, reinforcing the core values of unity, tradition and professionalism that define the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.

The School of Artillery, Minneriya continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the leadership and technical expertise of SNCOs, ensuring they remain the backbone of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment.
