THE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL OF REGIMENT OF SRILANKA ARTILLERY
2025-04-10The Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, in collaboration with the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch, organized a vibrant Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival on 5th April 2025 at the Major General Gratiaen Silva Grounds in Artillery Complex Panagoda. This event brought together officers, soldiers, civil servants and their families, Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery to celebrate the rich cultural traditions of Sri Lanka.
The festival featured an array of traditional games and activities, including 'Kotta Pora' (pillow fighting), 'Kana Mutti' (pot breaking), and tug-of-war competitions, fostering camaraderie and team spirit among participants. Children enjoyed events such as bun-eating contests and balloon-blowing competitions, ensuring a festive atmosphere for all ages.
Cultural performances showcasing traditional music and dance highlighted the nation's heritage, with soldiers and family members participating in these artistic expressions. The Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch also organized a trade fair, offering a variety of goods and products to attendees.
The event was graced by the presence of Major General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, The Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army and The Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, and Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, the President of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch. Their participation underscored the significance of the festival in promoting cultural values and community bonds within the regiment.
This New Year festival exemplified the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery's commitment to preserving Sri Lankan traditions and enhancing the welfare of its personnel and their families through communal celebrations.
