THE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL OF THE SRI LANKA ARTILLERY COMPLEX MINNERIYA

The Sri Lanka Artillery Complex Minneriya, in collaboration with the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch and Nestlé Lanka, organized a vibrant Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival on 17th April 2025 at the General Lionel Balagalle Stadium within the Artillery Complex in Minneriya. This festive occasion brought together military personnel and civilians to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.

The festival showcased a variety of traditional games and activities, including the marathon, Kotta Pora, Kana Mutti and Tug-of-war. All of which fostered camaraderie and team spirit among participants. Children enjoyed events such as bun-eating contests and balloon-blowing competitions, contributing to a lively and inclusive atmosphere for all age groups.

Enhancing the celebration were captivating cultural dance performances and musical acts presented by the Army Dancing Team, students of Viru Kekulu Pre-School, and local school students. These performances entertained the audience and reflected the island’s artistic diversity.

The event was honored by gracing as the Chief Guest, Major General KVNP Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, along with Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, President of the Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch. The event was also attended by several senior officers, government officials and other distinguished guests, highlighting the importance of cultural occasions in fostering stronger ties between the military and the wider community.

This New Year festival served as a testament to the Artillery Brigade’s commitment to preserving Sri Lankan traditions and fostering unity between the armed forces and civilians. The event was successfully conducted under the supervision of the Artillery Brigade and the School of Artillery, with the enthusiastic support of 7 SLA, 9 SLA, 14 SLA, 15 SLA, 5(V) SLA, EME (Arty) Battalion, and the Locating Battery.
