Precision, Tradition, and Camaraderie : Gun Drill & Man-Handling Competition 2025

The Gun Drill and Man-Handling Competition 2025 of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery was held on 15 August at the School of Artillery, Minneriya. The event was graced by Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, as the Chief Guest, along with several senior officers including the Commandant Infantry Training Center Minneriya, Commander Artillery Brigade, Commanders of 231 and 233 Infantry Brigades, and the Commandant, School of Artillery.

The programme commenced with a Ceremonial Guard Turnout, followed by the Gun Drill Competition. 15 SLA emerged as champions, while 11 SLA and 9 SLA secured 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The Man-Handling Competition tested the endurance and coordination of gunners, where detachments from Number One Course - 395 claimed all three top positions.

At the awards ceremony, the Chief Guest presented medals, certificates, and trophies to the winners. In his address, commended the professionalism and dedication of all participants, stressing the importance of maintaining the Regiment’s high standards in both ceremonial and operational spheres.

A highlight of the day was the unveiling of the Artillery Observers’ Statue near the Officers’ Mess, honouring their invaluable service. The event concluded with the opening of the Gunners’ Pizza Stall at the Gunners’ Club, marking the end of a memorable occasion that reinforced regimental traditions while strengthening unity and pride across all ranks of the Sri Lanka Artillery.
