5 SLA Crowned Champions in a Thrilling Contest

The Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery successfully concluded the Inter Unit Cricket Tournament – 2025 Finals at the Sri Lanka Artillery Cricket Ground, Panagoda, on 28 August 2025, showcasing remarkable sportsmanship, unity, and talent among participating regiments.

The finals were contested between 5(V) Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery and 8 Medium Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, two outstanding teams selected from twelve competitive units.

he event was graced by the presence of Major General KVNP Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Brigadier CD Welagedara USP IG, Centre Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.

Distinguished invitees included Major General HHKSS Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc , Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Women’s Corps, along with senior officers, officers, and other ranks who gathered to witness the grand finale.

Winning the toss, 8 SLA opted to field first, putting 5(V)SLA into bat. The 5(V)SLA side set a competitive total of 123 runs in 9 overs, before being bowled out. In their chase, 8 SLA fought valiantly but managed only 103 runs for 9 wickets, falling short by 20 runs. With this victory, 5(V) SLA emerged as champions, led by their team by Captain KVHM Gamage SLA.

Special individual awards highlighted the exceptional performances of players throughout the tournament:

Best Batsman– Staff Sergeant Jayawardana (8 SLA)

Best Bowler – Lance Bombardier Rathnayake (RHQ SLA) – 2 overs, 20 runs, 5 wickets

Best Fielder – Lance Bombardier Vithakshana (5(V) SLA)

Man of the Match – Lance Bombardier Karunarathne (5(V) SLA)

Player of the Tournament– Staff Sergeant Jayawardana (8 SLA)


The tournament not only reflected the sporting spirit and discipline of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery but also fostered camaraderie among soldiers while strengthening regimental pride. The enthusiastic participation of both serving personnel and senior leadership made the finals a memorable success.
