Exercise “Fire Arrows” Successfully Concludes at Field Firing Range in Tempitiya

The School of Artillery successfully concluded its annual live firing exercise, “Ex - Fire Arrows” at the Field Firing Range in Tempitiya (FFRT) from 15 to 21 June 2026 The exercise served as a key training initiative aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and combat effectiveness of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.

The exercise was conducted with the authorization of the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Artillery with the overall supervision of the Commandant of the School of Artillery.

A total of 24 Officers and 318 Other Ranks participated in the exercise, including recently graduated officers of Young Officers’ Course No. 51 (YOC 51) and students from several important institutional courses, namely Long Gunnery Staff Course for Other Ranks (LGSC ORs – FD 221), Gun Numbers 01 Course – FD 398, Technical Assistants’ Course – No. 482 , Gun Layers’ Course – No. 55, Drone Operators’ Course – No. 5, Post Depot Course – FD 230. The exercise 6 x 122mm guns, 7 x 120mm mortars and 1 x 122mm Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) were utilized to achieve the training objectives.

"Ex – Fire Arrows" provided a vital practical platform for Young Artillery Officers and novice soldiers, effectively bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-live-firing maneuvers. Beyond internal training, the exercise also hosted senior officers, officers, troops from other military establishments and both local and foreign student officers from various military training institutions, offering them valuable operational exposure.

The exercise was attended by Colonel G K Paranavithana RSP psc IG, Commandant of the School of Artillery, together with the Chief Instructor, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, and Officers of the Gunners Family, marking the successful completion of another significant training in the Regiment’s pursuit of operational excellence.
