New Commander of Security Forces (Wanni), Assumes Duties
2026-07-03A dignified ceremony was held to mark the assumption of duties by the newly appointed Commander of Security Forces (Wanni), Major General H H K S S Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc, who assumed office as the 27th Commander of Security Forces (Wanni) on 28 June 2026.
The proceedings commenced with the Senior Officer being accorded a Guard Turnout upon his arrival at the headquarters premises. Thereafter, Major General H H K S S Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc paid tribute to the fallen war heroes by laying a floral wreath at the War Heroes’ Monument located within the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni). He was subsequently accorded a Guard of Honour presented by troops of the 14 Rocket Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery
Following these formalities, the newly appointed Commander ceremonially assumed duties amidst religious observances. Group photographs were then taken with General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, and Staff Officers to commemorate the occasion. Thereafter, a sapling was planted as a symbolic gesture representing growth and continuity. The programme continued with an address to the troops by the New Commander, during which he shared his vision and expectations for the formation. The day's events concluded with an All Ranks Tea held at the Other Ranks’ Mess, providing an opportunity for the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) to interact with officers and soldiers.
The ceremony was attended by General Officers Commanding Infantry Divisions, the Commander Logistic Command (Wanni), Infantry Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers of Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), Commanding Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks and all are gathered to extend their respect and best wishes to the newly appointed Commander of Security Forces (Wanni).
