Sri Lanka Artillery Marks its 128th Regimental Anniversary with Grandiose Ceremony to Revere War Heroes
2016-04-21The prime event of marking the celebration of 128th regimental anniversary got underway at the Regimental Monument, Panagoda on 20th April 2016 by paying tribute to the memory of fallen war heroes of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.
General (Retd) Srilal Weerasooriya, a former commander of the Army graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the Colonel Commandant of the regiment, Major General Sumith Manawaduge and Mrs Sudharma Manawaduge welcomed the former commander and the lady to the memorial parade.
The Chief Guest, Colonel Commandant, Centre Commandant, Commander Artillery Brigade, Representative of Ex-Servicemen Association, All Commanding Officers and Regiment Sergeant Majors laid floral wreaths to denote their respect and gratitude to officers and men who sacrificed their lives for the future of the Mother Land.
In the evening, all night Pirith chanting ceremony was began and concluded with the offer of Heel Dana to Maha Sanga on 21st Thursday morning where religious blessings were invoked on the heroic Gunners who were killed in action and wounded in action.
A large gathering of serving and retired Gunner officers, other rankers and families of war heroes took part in the day's events.
